I think ppl forget that just bc they’re not actively thinkin “I dont like rap/hip hop bc it’s black music” doesn’t mean that anti-black racism doesn’t figure into those blanket statements/opinions in the 1st place. OPINIONS AREN’T FORMED IN A VACUUM.

Yup, this exactly.

And in my experience, more often than not, after talking to these “I don’t like hip hop/rap AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE” people for .5 seconds, their anti-black racism shows anyways.

You are both totally right and your logic is flawless. You have unraveled the complexities of human nature in just a few sentences, which is at least commendable. Thanks for making me realize that, just because people aren’t actively thinking “i don’t like tacos because it’s mexican food” doesn’t mean that they’re not actually racist. They most probably are, especially if they’re white. And if they say that they’re allergic to an ingredient, i will now know that it’s probably their white supremacy manifesting itself in their bodily functions and oozing out of their nostrils when they sneeze.

…Who the fuck are you and what the fuck are you on about.

I’m someone who doesn’t like rap music and doesn’t appreciate idiots making assumptions about why that is.

I don’t like hip-hop or rap, and it has nothing to do with race.
I don’t like it because as a rule? it’s pretty damn homophobic and it’s pretty misogynistic and I don’t like my music telling me that I can *beep* that *beep* up and *beep* the *beep* *beep*. Half the time, so many words are *beeeped* out that I can barely tell what they’re *beeping* saying.

Also, I really hate my sexuality being something that’s performed for the benefit of some man, ala “My Girlfriend’s Gotta Girlfriend” and that Nicki Minaj song about going to go see Usher and that Kanye song about Klondike Bars.

Which has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the fact that I find it distasteful and crude. So, yeah.

Your painting of hip hop and rap as a “distasteful and crude” monolith is misinformed, ignorant, reductionist, and bigoted as fuck. Your choosing to magically remove the ties that hip hop and rap has to the African American community is only to alleviate any guilt you might have about your ignorant opinions of the genre. The blackness of hip hop and rap is inextricable with hip hop and rap. Simple as that. That can’t be ignored when people criticize it. You think you’re the first basic motherfuck to come out and say this shit? Really? Sit the fuck down.

TL:DR-Thanks for proving my point marvleously!

“Heard they’d do anything for a Klondike/ well, I’ll do anything for a blonde dyke/ and she’ll do anything for the limelight/ and we’ll do anything when the time’s right” —”Stronger”, Kanye West

“Y’all niggas intellects mad slow/ all ya fags know/ Claimin’ you bangin, you flamin’/ bet you could light your own cigarette with your asshole”
“I might rap tight as the snatch of a fat dyke”  — “Fast Lane” —Eminem & Royce Da 5’9

How bought I cum all on your dick and then lick it off?/ I mean it’s somethin’ so funny when it get soft/ I like to play wit’ it, squeeze it like a stress ball/ He said he like to hear the sound of me slurpin it” -“Freaky Girl” —Nicki Minaj

Those are just a few of the examples I can think of off the top of my heard wherein rap and hip-hop are specifically crude, derogatory or discriminatory. That has nothing to do with the colour of the rapper’s skin (Eminem being white and all), and everything to do with the fact that I have no desire to monetarily or socially support a style of music that degrades others.
So why don’t you take that inchoate rage and go spew it somewhere else? I have no problems whatsoever with Black Culture or music—jazz, blues, gospel, funk and soul are all brilliantand challenging as a musician and I can appreciate them with full enthusiasm. I can appreciate the Black contribution to reggaeton and merengue and salsa. But I cannot in good faith support a musical genre that advocates ‘snitches get stitches’ and calling people ‘fat dykes’ and ‘faggots’, and I am well within my rights to say that I find the music unappealing and frankly, a little warped.

And I’ll even say it again: I don’t like rap, and it has nothing to do with race.

The fact that you’re a blanket-statment making bigot is absolutely not up for debate, never was, so quit whining about how you’re not a racist, we know you are. Feel free to repeat it however you wish, though~*~

That aside, I’m rather impressed at how strictly you adhere to the faultiest, most ignorant of logic. One or two (mainstream, working in a white supremacist, hetero-patriarchal, homophobic, misogynist, heirarchal industry) songs = all of hip hop and rap!1!1 (though I failed to see the misogyny in Nicki Minaj’s lyrics? OH, LET ME GUESS, you’re one of those “OMG u R EXPLOITIN’ urself!1!” feminist racists, aren’t you?) Never mind how gross of an oversimplification that is. Never mind how many non-sexist, non-homophobic hip hop and rap artists that are out there. Never mind how many female and queer hip hop and rap artists there are out there. You’d rather just quote one or two douchebags and to you, that accounts for the whole genre! Anyone who supports this music supports homophobia and sexism!1!1!!! That’s what this is about!1!1!

The fact that you want to stick to this simplistic, bullshit kind of thinking goes well beyond the fact that your comprehension & rational thinking skills are for shit. It means you’re biased against rap and hip hop for some reason (wonder what that might be?), and these instances of homophobia and misogyny give you the vehicle with which to (rather poorly) cover up your bias. Why does hip hop and rap have to be “right” anyways? Out of all the genres of music that have people fucking up, saying despicable shit, why do you single out all of rap and hip hop for having that issue and being deserving of you boycotting it? Keeping a genre of music to a stricter standard than others wreaks of a racist bias, also.

I see it happen all the time in general. 4 or 5 white boys can be walking around, douchin’ it up like they’re Dane Cook listening to Dave Matthews Band before a kegger, and no one says shit. ONE black boy is sagging his pants and cursing, and he’s scum of the earth, a bad example of his race, a hood rat, a hooligan. Cops follow him down the street and question the fuck out of him. People (racists) argue “HEY! We just don’t like it when anyone is acting like a miscreant!” but we know better. For one, good job further implying blackness is incriminating and negative and wrong, and two, if you’re so against “miscreants”, the fuck were you when the white boys were around acting like asshats? For the white boys, it’s “boys will be boys”. For black boys, its suspension, expulsion, firing, jail, prison. Black men have to walk the line lest the “look bad” but white men can do what they please.

The next point-Your whole “I like jazz” makes you rest easy since yeah, jazz is a black style of music and you enjoy it, right? Yay! Except here’s the thing-that’s utter bullshit. That line isn’t new either. Black people are OK so long as they aren’t acting like niggers, right? Press your hair, dress like whitey, make music that he likes and acts how he wants you to, and it’s good. Hip hop and rap upsets whitey, are genres of music created in direct anathema to whitey. It is meant to get under whiteness’ skin and to fuck with it. Most “I Hate Hip Hop and Rap” racists bring up this very “But I Love Jazz” point and it’s so basic and common, I am actually kind of dissapointed that you even brought it up, I thought you were a smarter bigot than that. : [  Also, I don’t know what in the fuck makes you think those other genres of black music and Afro-Latino music also don’t have homophobia/misogyny in them, but again, at this point in the conversation, I don’t think either of us are stupid enough to still really think this is about the “misogyny and homophobia” like you claim it is. #Wasn’tBornYesterday

Lastly, like I alluded to in the intial response with that blog link but you ignored in favor of showing your ignorance even more (which while infuriating is fun for me, you look so ridiculous)-The fact of the matter is that there is cultural and social context, a lot very negative, for the language and culture behind hip hop and rap. Is machismo, sexism, and crime a good thing? No, but it is a reality of black life, which is a reactionary, survivalist reality to white oppression and suppression. To ignore and spit on rap and hip hop is to also ignore how it is that many black men go about their manhood, how many black women navigate their sexuality, how crime happens in the black community and how it is dealt with both by the community and society, etc. To ignore that is to ignore and spit on blackness. Plain and simple. Playing “pick and choose” with black life and narratives like that is privileged and ignorant and bigoted and racist. You need to realize that shit and sit down, for real.

So if I don’t like rap and hip-hop, I’m a racist. That’s not exactly (actually, not at all) in line with the actual definition of racism, but all right, let’s go with it. But let me ask you something… Do you like sushi? I’d hope so, otherwise you’re a filthy racist piece of shit for discriminating Japanese people. And don’t give me any of that “I just don’t like its taste” shit, we all know you just THINK you don’t like the taste because you secretly hate those poor underprivileged Asians!

Go apply it to any kind of cuisine originating from any oppressed culture. You’re bound to find some meal you dislike, which by your logic will mean that deep down, you’re just a racist fuck.

Absurd, isn’t it? Now go read your own post again. When you say “I don’t like how this food tastes”, you don’t mean “I don’t like it because it was made by [insert ethnicity here]”, do you? And when someone says “I don’t like rap because [insert justified reason here]”, they mean what they say, and you don’t get to say “no, if you don’t like it, that MUST be because you’re racist” because you’re not a goddamn mind-reader.

Simply disliking something is not racism. And equality for blacks doesn’t equal eating up any shit they come up with, as you aren’t expected to like everything some other group does, either.
