This. This all the way.

Oh yes, pretending that straight men are gay is TOTALLY OPPRESSION

OK, then you’re welcome to explain how insisting on that two straight men are gay, outright disregarding their actual sexuality and reducing them to nothing more than fap-fodder for said fangirls is ANY LESS objectifying than a man fantasizing about a woman without attempting to extend said fantasies into reality in any way, which is often considered sexual objectification by feminists.
Here it is again, worded gender-inclusively for perspective:
“Shipping” two actual people with incompatible sexualities reduces said people to nothing more than the objects of one’s sexual fantasies, as evidenced by the “my fantasies are more important than what they really are like” attitude.
Is that not the very definition of sexual objectification?

Not really? I mean, it doesn’t really make much logical sense. Although straight men have cultivated the gay woman fetish quite well, the counterpart doesn’t truly exist among straight women. The only type of gay man fetish that is really ever witnessed among straight women is by the annoying, homophobic, distastefully-gender-conforming folks who sort of keep gay best friends in the strange belief that this will increase their chance of successfully being fashionable.
Maybe it’s more the idea that making their straight men popular figures out to be gay is the closest thing they will get to having woman popular figures? As in, having these men like other men like they themselves do (or be gay as they themselves are).
But sexual objectification- that just doesn’t seem likely. Not that it’s impossible for straight women to have a gay man fetish, but it’s not exactly popular enough to blame for all the shipping.
Maybe it’s silly, but I suppose it depends on the reason that it exists.

>[…] the counterpart doesn’t really exist among straight women.
Stopped reading there. Are you fucking blind or what? Women practically drooling about some “hot guy” is just as common as it is the other way around, and yes, that applies to shipping, too. Just look around here on Tumblr. Then apply palm to face when you realize what enormous bullshit you just said.

No… not really. There’s a difference between an observable fetish and judging one phenomenon to be an example of a fetish that can’t be observed in any other situation.
For example, the counterpart: straight man fetishization of gay women. This is easily observed apart from any fantasy-creating straight women into gay ones.
The same can’t be said for the woman fetishization of gay men.

And here you go again with twisting words and trying to redefine what “fetish” means. You know, words have set definitions for a reason, and that reason is not so you can twist them in search of cop-outs. And for the record, even if I go with the above presented bullshit, you’re STILL wrong, as the fetishization of gay men DOES go to the same extent as the fetishization of lesbians. You must be either deliberately ignorant or plain blind to not notice that.

Maybe they never heard of yaoi.
Maybe they never read any fanfiction in their live.
Maybe they haven’t read all those stories about said (straight girls/women) yaoi-fangirls trying to force men to kiss each other, if not more.
Otherwise, I can’t explain their statements. Saying that a gay man would be closest to a women in whatever position is even insultingly ignorant to both gay men and women, and I really hope that I don’t need to explain why because it’s as glaringly obvious as the fetishization of gay men.

^This. Thanks for making the point I couldn’t be assed to make.
